Melanie C has decided not to perform at a New Year’s Eve concert in Poland in order to show support for certain communities.

Melanie C has cancelled a New Year’s Eve concert in Zakopane, Poland after learning about issues “that do not align with the communities I support”. The singer did not specify the reason for her cancellation, but her decision was praised by members of the LGBT community and their allies. Polish authorities and the TV station organizing the concert, state broadcaster TVP, have faced criticism for their stances on LGBT rights. In a statement, TVP said Melanie C had previously expressed excitement about performing, but “under the pressure of online comments” unexpectedly withdrew from the performance. The singer has been a vocal supporter of LGBT rights, winning the celebrity ally prize at the British LGBT Awards in 2021 and being named “Honorary Gay” at Attitude magazine’s awards earlier in the year.
